“The Importance of Republic Act 6713"

In order to uphold the time-honored notion that holding public office is a public trust, Republic Act 6714 establishes a code of conduct and ethical standards for public officials and employees. It also provides incentives and rewards for exceptional service, lists prohibited acts and transactions, and imposes penalties for violations.

To encourage a high level of ethics in public service, this policy was created. It is encouraging to know that there is a statute in place to protect the government entities' reputations as public trusts. Because there are standards of conduct that must be strictly adhered to by them in order to perform and discharge their official functions and obligations, this has helped to improve the behavior of our public officials and employees. As a result of the public's faith in public servants and employees, who are accountable for the public's business, the law requires that there always be justice and fairness in the provision of services to the general public. Additionally, this regulation safeguards the rights of others, particularly the underprivileged and underpaid who wish to use the services of individuals who behave indecently and impolitely.

What significance does this conduct now have? You may inquire. The Republic Act 6714 is significant because it places a strong emphasis on the ethics and code of behavior for public servants. Without the public servants' and employees' code of conduct and ethical standards, they would become irresponsible and unethical.

Without ethical guidelines, power abuse and unethical behavior will occur. Public servants and employees will be expected to act in accordance with the ethical standards and code of conduct as a way to avoid breaking any laws or regulations. Their acts must be deliberate and in line with the values that they are expected to uphold in their capacity as public servants. Since they are responsible for the citizens, public servants and employees must be held to a higher standard of accountability. They must preserve justice, be nationalistic, and even execute the law.

As a student, I suggest that this policy be strictly imposed, carried out, and observed at all times in the offices. In addition, a hard copy of this policy should be posted on the office bulletin board to remind everyone of how important it is to be aware of what their obligations would be if they did not abide by the law. If everyone follows this act, there will be no discrimination in the workplace, misunderstanding and abuse of power. The workplace will be filled with love, harmony and respectful public officials.
